| 2004-06-16 : Jeff Morrison, Outdoor writer for the Ottawa Sun | MAXIMA PERFEXION:
Mark Stiffel of Breck’s put me on to the Maxima family of monofilament lines. He had spoken so highly of this line, created from German technology, that I just had to give it a try. The first one I put to the “field-test” was Maxima’s new Ultragreen series, which boasts an amazing ability to blend in perfectly with any water color, becoming virtually invisible. Prior to trout fishing this spring, I spooled up one of my trout rods with a fresh batch of 8-lb. test Ultragreen, and hit the water. It took but a few casts to realize that Stiffel had spoken the truth, this line really was invisible, as well as extra limp and quite soft. I was impressed, so the following day I decided to put the new line through an ultra-stress test. While trolling for pike on a different lake, my line must have dragged over a dozen sharp rock edges and even with visible abrasion marks, its strength did not falter. I cannot wait to try the Maxima Perfexion series next. |
| | 2004-03-23 : Maxima Ultragreen Monofilament Fishing Line | Product Report published in the B.C. Outdoors magazine by Dave Wei an OWC member.
With the line-weakening effects of sunlight, abrasion and saltwater, anglers should replace their fishing line at the beginning of each season. A premium line like Maxima Ultragreen monofilament fishing line will help to guarantee bringing in that trophy fish. For the West coast angler, Maxima Ultragreen comes in convenient 250-yard “one shot” spools of 25- to 40-pound test line that just fill a single-action trolling or mooching reel to maximum capacity.
Maxima Ultragreen has a special ability to match the color of the surrounding water, rendering the line virtually invisible. Light is absorbed into the surface of the line rather than reflected, allowing anglers to present their baits more naturally. This line is great when used with trolling lures like plugs or big spoons, that are tied directly to the mainline. If fish are leader-shy when mooching cutplug or whole herring, I like to tie my own hookups using near-invisible Ultragreen.
The supersoft and limp monofilament also makes Maxima Ultragreen a favorite line for casters or jiggers. Ultragreen lays perfectly coiled on the spools of either baitcasting or spinning reels, allowing the line to glide smoothly off the reel and through the rod guides on each cast.

Since the early 1970’s, the Williams Quick Silver high-action trolling spoons have been popular and productive lures for salmon and trout anglers on the Great Lakes. Williams introduced the Quick Silver spoons for testing on the west coast in the summer of 2002, and found that salmon out here loved them.
The Quick Silver spoons are extremely light-weight, with jewellery-quality silver or black “perl” plating. The lightness, combined with a brilliant finish, allow the spoons to flutter and flash alluringly like a wounded baitfish. The spoons are fished effectively at almost any trolling speed, either with or without a flasher.
The spoons come in five colors, with exquisite baitfish graphics, complete with painted scales, on the convex side. To protect the plated and painted surfaces against the ravages of saltwater, the spoons are given a final electro-clear outer coat. Quick Silver spoons are available in small 3-1/4” QS3, and larger 4-1/4” QS4 sizes.
My own successful test-fishing this past season verified the glowing reports of other anglers. My wife, Suzanne, and I found the Williams Quick Silver spoons were every bit as good as any of their west coast counterparts, and are welcome additions to our tackle box.
